“This work explores the place between wakefulness and dreams. The ambiguous shape is the flattened sum of multiple hand shadows twisting and pulling against each other – the compressed experience of reality that becomes the fabric for dreams.

Taking inspiration from textile design, the patterned backgrounds become a visual field of exploding color transforming the figurative shapes into altered visions of the overarching pattern. In some paintings, the plane of color gives way to an abstracted landscape referencing memories real and imagined, and in others, the layered color steps of transformation pulsate the subject into and out of corporeal form.

These Snakeknots are like the twisted coils of the ouroboros writhing around itself in shifting colors that glow in the darkness of half sleep.”
